Position: Project & WASH Manager – Renewable Energy
Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Salary: 3000 – 5000USD

Our client is one of the leading renewable energy providers in Tanzania. They are seeking to hire a qualified, well experienced and competent Project & Wash Manager to join their team. The Project & Wash Manager will play a critical role in coordinating and overseeing water-solar-related projects (solar energy systems and water infrastructure) while ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
 
Role Overview
The primary role will be to lead a team and ensure the successful design, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of projects within the WASH department. He/She will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and other stakeholders, to deliver projects on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. The successful candidate will be required to grow and scale the department. 
 
Key Responsibilities
Project Management: 
  • Plan, execute, and manage energy efficiency projects from initiation to completion. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, goals, and deliverables. 
  • Develop project timelines and budgets, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. 
  • Monitor and report project progress, identifying and mitigating risks and issues.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.  
  • Develop project plans, including defining project scope, goals, deliverables, and timelines. 
  • Identify resource requirements, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate project viability. 
  • Coordinate and lead project teams, assigning tasks, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration. 
  • Monitor project progress, track milestones, and address any issues or deviations from the plan. 
  • Manage project budgets, expenses, and procurement activities. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices. 

System Design and Engineering: 
  • Lead and Collaborate with engineers and technical personnel to design and optimize solar water pumping and water treatment systems/ solar energy-related projects. 
  • Conduct site assessments to determine the most suitable system configurations based on water demand, available solar resources, and water quality requirements.
  • Specify equipment, components, and materials needed for system installation and operation. 
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for system implementation.

Installation and Commissioning: 
  • Supervise and support the installation and commissioning activities of solar water pumping systems and water treatment facilities as well as solar energy-related projects.
  • Ensure that installation work is carried out according to design specifications and industry best practices. 
  • Conduct system performance testing, troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Provide training to operators and maintenance personnel on system operation and maintenance procedures. 

Operations and Maintenance: 
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs for solar water pumping systems and water treatment facilities.
  • Monitor system performance, water quality, and energy consumption to identify and address any operational issues. 
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance activities, including equipment inspections, repairs, and replacements. 
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and inventory. 

Quality Assurance:
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes for solar energy & water projects. 
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Identify areas for improvement and develop and implement improvement plans. 

Stakeholder Engagement and Management:
  • Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to identify water supply needs and develop appropriate solutions. 
  • Provide technical expertise and support to address water-related challenges in various sectors, such as agriculture, rural development, and disaster response. 
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences to share knowledge, promote best practices, and stay updated on industry trends. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met. 
  • Communicate project progress, milestones and issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Address stakeholder concerns and maintain positive relationships.

 Documentation and Reporting: 
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets and reports. 
  • Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement. 
 
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or any other relevant field. A Master’s degree is desirable. 
  • Atleast 5 proven years' experience in designing and managing solar water pumping systems and water treatment facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of solar energy systems, water treatment processes, plumbing works, and related equipment. 
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations in the water and renewable energy sectors. 
  • Proficient in system design software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools and data analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of solar energy systems, water infrastructure, and related technologies. 
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools. 
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians and engineers. 
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with stakeholders. 
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental sustainability. 
  • A master's in project management or PMP certification will be an added advantage
